Emerging evidence suggests that completing specific stabilising exercises can be valuable in the management of low back pain and in reducing its recurrence. Joseph H. Pilates developed a system of exercises in the 1920's and these have been modified for the clinical poplulation.
Pilates is suitable for all ages, irrespective of fitness levels, and can even be useful for the rehabilitation of injuries.
Box Hill Physiotherapy has group Pilates classes, or individual "one to one" sessions with a physiotherapist, which utilises special Pilates equipment - The Reformer and The Trapeze Table.

Group Classes:
When: Thursday 6 - 7 pm
Where: Healthways Recreation Centre, off Dunloe Avenue, Mont Albert North
Cost: 10 Sessions valid for 6 months - $150 full fee, $135 pensioner fee. $20 one off casual fee. We ask for a 10 session committment as we believe your muscles will take this time to adapt to the new exercises. The 10 sessions are transferable between classes.
Note: Most private health insurance extras covers will give a rebate for group classes taken by a physiotherapist. At the end of your 10 sessions we will give you a tax invoice so that you may claim from your health insurance company.
One - One Classes:
When: Please call for a booking, these sessions can be run on any weekday and on some Saturdays.
Where: Box Hill Physiotherapy Clinic
Cost: Fully rebatable physiotherapy consultation, varies according to health fund.
TAC, WorkCover, Veterans' Affairs: patients may be eligible to have their classes funded. Please discuss your suitability with your treating physiotherapist or GP.
